The presentation will discuss common case scenarios seen by the neonatal health care professionals in an interactive way including the topics of oesophageal atresia, Anorectamalformations in both males and females, causes of neonatal bilious vomiting ( upper gastrointestinal obstruction) as partial and complete duodenal obstruction , intestinamalrotation or midgut volvulus, jejunal obstruction, annular pancreas, Necrotizing Enterocolitis, surgical causes of abdominal distention ( lower intestinal obstruction) as Hirschsprung disease, meconium ileus and meconium plug, anterior abdominal wall defects as exomphalos major, minor, gastroschisis and hernia of the umbilical cord. Also will discuss the topic of difficult vascular access and the principles of open central line insertion.
The target is to give neonatal health care professionals a solid basis on how to collect clinical data and interpret it to do the right step in management regardless of the diagnose. Also to give a bird's view of the different surgical cases commonly faced by the NICU staff, aiming to give clear answers to the following questions, What is the possible diagnosis, what are the principles of surgical management & what are the expected complications that can occur in these cases
