Covid-19 impact on Diabetes Patient's

 Introduction: Covid-19 is a pandemic disease with a high risk of comorbidity and mortality in patients with (Hypertension, Pulmonary Disease, Cancer, Diabetes…). The current study was carried out to investigate the effect of Covid-19 on patients with Diabetes in Afghan Japan Communicable Disease Hospital, Kabul. 2021

Method: This (descriptive-analytic) study was conducted on 102 diabetes patients who were confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 detected RT-PCR results including Fasting & Random Blood sugar reports and admission files study. The data was analysed using SPSS 20 (IBM).

Results: We found, most of patients experienced severe to more-severe sign and symptoms with a high mortality rate of (49%), also, most of these patients died due to pneumonia, ARDS, Respiratory and Cardio Pulmonary Arrest, we found that only (1%) patients were in normal diabetes stage.

Neonatal TSH screening insensitive for iodine insufficiency

  Measuring levels of neonatal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) may not be sufficiently sensitive for inferring the extent of iodine deficiency in a given population, study results suggest. Despite pregnant women in Belgium being mildly iodine deficient, neonatal TSH values were unexpectedly low. Although neonatal TSH is useful to detect severe iodine deficiency it should not be recommended presently for the evaluation of iodine status in mildly iodine deficient regions. The utilization of neonatal TSH is an attractive method because it is assumed that the thyroid of the new-born is very sensitive to iodine status and even mild iodine deficiency during pregnancy will cause an increase in neonatal TSH secretion.
